Do you grow cacti? If so, why? If not, why not? I grow them for the dragon fruit, and for the flowers. Which are amazing considering they come from a spiky little green ball. My cacti are in flower right now. And I'm glad I have them  :D

Have you any pictures of yours?

There are three signs of old age. The first is your loss of memory, the other two I forget.

I have great pictures of my Cacti, but my laptop is bust so no high quality 8MP pics, but more like rubishy 4MP pictures from a camera with a macros mode that doesnt work  I'll post what I can later. The flowers are probably closed now though  :?

They are beautiful Chilliman, but the flowers don't last long do they?  or some take years to flower?

I've got a few succulents, but I'm not really into cacti.  Used to have some when I was at school, eons ago!  My best friend loves them though and has quite a few, but she only has a little house, so hasn't got much room for them.

Thanks GrannieAnnie, they have been open since sunday and are still looking amazing so I'd say Ive got till the end of the week, but some opened a day ago so Ive got them for longer. Some types of cacti flower from just 2 years old, I'v even heard of one flowering in year 1. I love these plants alot, and now I love them more for the flowers :D Cacti typicaly flower every year after a short dormancy period. I have myne outside all year round :)
I was just rooting through photobucket and found these

Ther flowers died a few weeks back, I'm glad I caught its beauty on camera though.

Wow none of mine are doing that but they are still babies except one which is going to flower but don't ask when.

We do have some which seem to be doing quite extraordinary growth spurts.

The only trouble is the top growth is so big its making the whole cactus fall over.  I've repotted it and made it slightly deeper so the soil will help hold it up.  It seems to be doing ok so far.

Any ideas what this cactus is and does this keep doing this, growing extra large growth?  I don't think it will cope if it does it again.

No.  Its only about two years old.  It did this growth spurt in about a month.  Just went mental.  It still seems to be expanding upwards and outwards.  Just hope we haven't done anything wrong.  It could be having mental breakdown of some kind ha ha

Teen 76, your cacti looks kind of like a T. palmadora. But I'm not 100%, I'd have someone like Big Jen to back me up on that one.

Thanks chilliman you could be right.  I've been having a look on the internet and there is something that looks similar and also I have some others that have looked similar to some other photos on the net.

A bit more narrow and tall.
