can any one suggest some thing to rid me of the huge clump of toadstools that grow up my tree stump each year i try to cut them downbecause they just take over and go mad they grow so fast .
i dont know what type they are , they are a dark pea green colour with a thick trunk and small head to start and then over night they are enourmous and the tops open up .
any ideas  :?:  :?:  :?:

Can't see the harm in it on a tree stump myself - check (with an expert) to see if they are edible?  They will certainly be getting rid of the stump for you.

Might be stating the obvious, but you will need a fungicide rather than a herbicide if you do decide to spray.  :)

If you kill the toadstools, the pixies will have nowhere to live

If you kill the toadstools, you might even kill the tree, so lucky, you probably can't.  :)

It is quite rare, that toadstools would hurt a tree much. It's a symbiotic relationship, they need the tree to survive. As WG says, they might as well be edible.

The age and condition, type of tree matters though. Sometimes they can do harm. Hard to say anything else without a piccie.

As said, consult a fungi guru if worried that the tree suffers.

Ah,   it's a stump, right, well, you must find them unsightly then, I personally can't see why they can't be.

On the chemical front I'm hopeless, I don't use any.

Dunno really since I don't use chemicals & can't think that I've ever seen fungicides on the shelves.   Might be worth trying some wallpaper paste on them since that has got fungicide in.  Don't hold me responsible for any collateral damage tho'

They don't have pixies in Greece - only minotaurs & everyone knows they don't live under toadstools

you could try ammilatox - and your roses will be safe - as it's used as an annual disinfectant for roses with black spot etc - it will knock back honey fungus - so if it stops that - it should stop the ones you are suffering from - but this stuff is strong - so only use the quantities suggested for your problem - when diluting.
