Yes, it's that time again. I've looked in the books and online but can't one that quite matches.
It's a beautiful red, 5 petals, leaves in pairs alternating and the petals are cranesbill like. But the leaves say it isn't !

As usual, the winner gets a prize of some free, organic, fresh air.
Thank you for looking.

Dunno.
But there's speedwell, cleavers (sticky willie), nettles..........
-
OH was battling her way through to the back when she called me over. We've found 2 lost tribes and an Aztec temple so far.
What looks like speedwell is Green Alkanet. It has the most amazing blue flowers and grows like a weed. Mainly because it is.
The flowers are/were used as decoration in drinks and desserts apparently. We have enough to keep the Savoy supplied until 2030 at least. I've got a wider shot of that bed...

Showing the Sisyrinchium Striatum in the foreground. Yellow flowers on long stems with Iris-like leaves.
A few teazels going mad and the hawthorn and Elder hedge behind.
Every weed known to man grows in this garden.
And I thoguht I'd kept the sticky willie out of shot.

From further painstaking research, it appears it could be Red Campion but I'll have to check in the morning.
Rob :)

Don't think it's red campion, as despite it's name, it tends to be pink. But what do I know about flowers?
-
is it Lychnis???? Arkwrightii 'Vesuvius"
I think I recognise it as I've grown it from seed
-
It's a lychnis called Maltese Cross. I grow them in my garden. Easy care and aren't rampant.
-
Thank you all.
It is a beautiful red and really stands out amongst the debris.
have to get it all thinned out properly.
Rob :)
-
yeah mine needs thinning out, it gets a bit floppy too when blown about -
talking lychnis here by the way

Trillium on the naughty chair with you! Not rampant! How rampant is rampant? If you don't chop those huge seed heads off you could end up with it everywhere! I did
