One of my brown hens has scales that are raised up at the point where the leg joins the foot. None of the other 7 chooks seems to have the same thing. Could this be scaly leg mite or just a varient of normal?

I've no experience of it personally, but I have read if it is Vaseline rubbed on the legs helps get rid :?

Also I think Bodger mentioned a while ago that when they molt they also loose some scales so I suppose it could also be that some haven't quite come off proper :?

It is normal for some of the scales at the leg/foot joint to be raised. If they are raised elsewhere on the leg, particularly if there is a grey, crusty looking deposit around the scales, then you would suspect scaley leg mite. As said above, they do also moult the scales so you may notice some old scales coming off. Hope this helps
