Back in the old days when we all ran 2-stroke motorbikes, we knew that blue smoke was perfectly normal and acceptable. You'll get less from engines designed to run on thinner ratios, but don't mess with the ratio yourself - if the manufacturer says it needs 40:1, then it needs 40:1.

As for the tar coming out of the exhaust: again that is normal for a 2-stroke. We used to have to "de-coke" our exhaust systems with caustic soda, and it was a right messy job - mainly because of all the black oily muck inside there.

I still run an old two stroke motorbike, and I still have to decoke the exhaust. ???

MZ TS150.

It's only a biddy little thing, but it can fixed at the roadside with a stick and a bit of string.

I wouldn't mind the TS250 if I could find one reasonably local at the right price ;)

But we digress....
