Shed Base
« on: April 10, 2009, 18:27 »
Hi, I have been told when I put my new shed up, it's best to put it on blocks so it's raised off the ground as the rodents then won't nest under it due to the draft.  Is this a good idea or not?
Cheers

Yes, deffinitely a good idea otherwise the shed floor could rot and that would be dangerous and expensive to put right again.

Putting blocks down also gives you a chance to level the base properly

The closer the shed floor is to the ground the more secure the rodents feel. If the local cats can get under rodents are less likely to make it their home plus if you see holes appearing you can put a trap or bait station under there.
Another good reason for raising the base is to prevent wet rot.

Thanks for the replies, I'll put it on top of some blocks then.  That makes me feel better about that.

Don't forget to put a damp course between the blocks and timber. Roofing felt (double thickness will do.
