Best Polytunnel ???
« on: February 25, 2013, 10:04 »
I know this can be an emotive issue...but what would you say is a good pollytunnel???
I've spent some time surfing the net and having a look & pricing them,  but will have to hang fire on buying one, as one of the topics at the AGM at this Thurs night meeting is should they be allowed?

We have a number up at our allotments, I have a greenhouse at home but would like to keep it there and not take it up the lottie. I would prefer to buy a good polly.

A couple of years ago I purchased a Haygrove tunnel. Not the cheapest but excellent quality

I honestly think that some of the best that I've sen are "homemade" ones - from plastic water piping and propper" horticultural covering. There's some fantastic examples on our site that gave me inspiration to build my own. It wasn't too hard. I'm not what you call handy - I'm a pen-pusher at work!!

Interesting...never thought about that...any photos of them??? type of pipe used?, fittings & fixings?

Like I said we've got to wait and see what happens at the AGM tomorrow evening about PT's.
If we are allowed to keep them and have new ones, then I would like to put up a large one as we want to have a go at sweet pots.  I've been reading up on them and it seems that they need around 4 mouths of hot weather to fill the tubers out.

So if we buy...it's worth a look at Haygrove..or First Tunnels....cheers guys.

:) Glad to hear it, having just paid rather a lot of money for one :)  Looking forward to a delivery hopefully this week and get onto construction next weekend. (and grateful to the allotment officer and the site rep for agreeing a slight deviation to the permitted sizing)
