Villiers C12
« on: December 10, 2012, 17:49 »
Was just wondering if anyone knows much about the Villiers C12 engine?  I recently bought the remains of one, and was told it came from a Howard rotavator.  But the bulk of info I've found online is for them used as stationary engines.

Are they good engines?  I'm trying to figure out if I'm best to source the missing parts and try and get it working, or break for spares?

Villiers engines are reknown for reliability.  Mostly used in the scrambling bikes of yesteryear.

Cheers,   Tony.

It's not a bad old lump, Very dated now. If the engine it's self is in reasonable condition, It might be worth restoring.
What's missing?

Quite a lot is missing really, no carb or inlet manifold, no exhaust, no flywheel cover, and I'm not sure if something is missing up top, or if the head bolts are just not done up much!

Did you have a project in mind when you bought the engine?

I bought it for a good price!

Think I might give it a clean up and put it on eBay, unless I spot a whole C12 unit with a seized piston or cracked block...

Well I can always weigh it in if I don't get anywhere I suppose!  I'll give it a clean up and put it on eBay, and will break it for spares if anyone wants anything!
