Title: Up Ere! A poem worth listening to.
Post by: Aidy on December 23, 2017, 10:41
No doubt some of our North West members would of seen this last night on BBC NW. For those of you who live beyond our great region here is the poem "Up Ere!"
A poem about our region, our life, our stories. Definitely worth a listen.
Hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

I did see it and it really encapsulated what northerners are like. Although I was born in Crewe, I've lived in this area since I was nine and remember when mum and I stayed at my nana's in Accrington, so I've put it into words for you.

"Spit on me hanky so's I can wipe your mucky face.
See! 'Er next door not donkey-stoned 'er steps again. She's disgracing the whole street.
Now me pinny's got covered in black lead! I'll have to get the tub and posser out again
And it's not even wash-day Monday. I'm down to me last bag of Dolly Blue
And need a new shammy for't windows.
Chalk it up on't slate will you.

Troffin's full of leaves. It's leaking rain down int' glory-hole.
Lobby needs a good bottoming and carpets could do wit' a Ewbanking.
'Er over't road's peeking at me again through them grubby lace curtains.
She's no better than she ought to be. All fur coat and no knickers as me mam would say.
I won't say how she pays her rent, but wagging tongues on market day can't tell a lie, can they?
Clogs sparking on the cobbles. He's on his way home. Wanting his tea. Deary me!"
