while i was gardening this morning i found this whilst pruning a small bush

 

any ideas as to what it is?

Difficult to tell, the photo's quite small.

My wife has a pair of socks like that though...

Ok, I opened the image in photoshop, but the resolution is not high enough, do you have a bigger version?

Could it be a fungus, toad spawn or similar, space gunk?

Are you asking about the dark stuff on the leaf or the whole thing? With such a small pic, it's difficult to tell what you want answered.

sorry about the size of the picture i will try and get it bigger, the dark stuff on the leaf, it is loads of small black dots, like ant or snail eggs but black.

lets try again - not much bigger but its the biggest it will let me do it

Could be frogspawn it dosent jelly up until it has soaked in water for a while. It may be all that,s left of a hedgehog-frog encounter.

Can't tell you for certain what it is but it definitely isn't toad spawn, fungus or hedgehog poo. Could be frog spawn neat from the frog as 8doubles said ... or maybe space gunk (never seen any to know  )
