I have some little critter eating my young mint plant. These tiny (couple of milimetres long) lice like things all over the soil at the base of the plant and are the most likely culprits. Does anybody know what they are and how to discourage the from eating my plant?

It looks like aphids...if ants present then some cheap jam on the leaves higher than the aphids would work, or a mild mix of washing up liquid and water sprayed on.
