Title: LAYERS MASH
Post by: joyce c on June 19, 2009, 09:28
Do I serve layers mash, dry or wet?? I gave my chooks their first taste yesterday. and served it dry.  They'll not entertain. So is this another one of my big learning excercises :)  They have been having layers pellets and they love that.  What should I do.?

When I used mash I tended to serve it wet. I use pellet now.

I use pellets and mash and if you wish to use mash the best way is wet.  (Munty says it can cause breathing problems if used dry.)  Hot water is best for wetting it - just enough to make it like breadcrumbs.  But you must only leave it down for a day before changing or fungal spores etc. will cause you a problem.

Thanks for all your prompt replies.  Your all so helpful.  Think I'll stay with the pellets, and maybe feed the mash to the wild birds.

..........maybe feed the mash to the wild birds.

Or save it for a warm winter treat?
