The wild birds here queue up to get to layers pellets, i might make one of these to slow them down a bit. http://www.woodworkingcorner.com/feeder.php

Galvanised feed and water containers are both kept in the run area under the coop.  I top up the pellets and change the water every morning.  I don't remove the containers at night as I can't see how rats could get in  -I have a fox-proof skirt around the perimeter so there are no gaps.  The feed is stored in a large black plastic bin in the shed.  The bin has metal clips on the lid so it is rat-proof.

our coop isnt big enough to put food and water in they kept knocking the water over. Now they have water and food in the run under cover we take the food in at night. Our biggest problem is they scratch at the food and its wasting loads. Any suggestions?

You can buy those anti scratch overs that you put onto your feeder,  you can buy them already attached aswell, there fantastic, one of my girls is a dreadful at scratching at the feed, with this on she carnt get her claws into it.   nickyx

I am just experimenting with feeders and drinkers.

I take the food and grit away at bedtime but I have been leaving the water there - they make such a mess though.

I have splashed out on a big one wheen they are outside the pen.

Would it hurt to take the water away at night?  I suspect they play with it more than drink it.

They don't need their food or water at night. :)

I have a metal storage container and I put the feed into that every night.
