Lavender gravel?
« on: March 16, 2012, 07:38 »
Hi, I am going to put my lavender seedlings in pots tonight. They still look a bit fragile but the tray they are in is not doing the job so need to get them out. Would anybody recommend if I should put them in part gravel and compost or all compost at this still early phase? Ta :)

Compost is a bit rich for lavendar, which prefers things poor and dry. So definitely mix in some gravel or perlite or vermiculite with the compost. Sand will also do.

Top dressing them with gravel will help too... only about one layer of stones deep right now of course as they are so small

Totally forgot to purchase the gravel and was desperate to get them out of the trays, unfortunately repotted them in more compost, i used the bottom of the bag so it was a bit rough to say the least and I am sure there was some body hair in there too  I am not sure about these leavender plants though verrrry little and have taken ages to been tiny little things. Are Lavender slow to grow after germination? I havent a clue :unsure:Hope you can help thanks  :)

They do seem to stay very small for ages, but don't worry, as soon as conditions warm up, tey will begin to grow more quickly  :D
