Apple Tree and Raspberrys
« on: April 13, 2010, 10:14 »
Hi All

Is it too late to put an Apple Tree in - been in a large pot in the garden for Donkeys years and has not done very well (not surprising) - thought I would give it a new lease of life on the plot.

Also put 3 cheap raspberrys in the garden last year, these are now coming into leaf - can these be moved to the plot as well, would take a large rootball with them, and the plot is really only over the back fence.

Your thoughts would be appreciated.

it's a bit late really, though the tree sounds like it's probably pot bound so I would take a chance on that and plant it out, with the minimum disturbance you can.

All the garden centres are still selling potted raspberry plants but established plants in leaf i would leave until the autumn, unless they are really in the way where they are.
I hoe, I hoe, it's off to weed I go.

Hi Hugglescote Grower I think we are neighbours...... Are you on the Central Road plots?

Anyway the raspberrys are just squeezzed in a the back of what was the Veg patch until I got the allotmennt, so would really like to move them.

Plot 88, you can miss it, the one with the brambles....... yuk, will tackle those next year maybe....

Poly tunnel (the one that is advertiesed on here) going in this weekend, so if you want a laugh be around on saturday.

Off to start to dig a 5 x 3 mtr space for it, should be fun.......

Will put the Apple tree in, and might risk the raspberrys - will see if we can still move by saturday....

you'll know my plot from the sheer quantity of black plastic. I'm sure it can be seen from space!

That and the half glazed greenhouse.

It will be good to see how you get on with your tunnel, have a mind to go down that route myself at some point.

Julie, you'll still be alright moving those raspberries. As you say, go slowly when you dig them up and take adequate soil in the root area and they won't know the difference. Yours are young enough to do this.
