We have quite a lot in our garden and they are getting out of control a little… are cranesbill geraniums weeds? They gave pleasant purple flowers it just that they seem to crowd everything else out.
I was thinking of cutting them back quite hard this week just wondering if right thing to do?

If you cut them back most of them will give another flush of flowers.
When the winter weather comes, it's a good idea to thin the clumps out, if they're getting too big.
I think they keep the weeds down, so I personally think, the more the merrier
