Paths best and worse
« on: May 20, 2013, 20:02 »
Hi guys putting my paths in between my beds and I keep debating which has more pros and con any suggestions? What do slugs avoid?

I can get free stones and bark chippings  but I have bark at home and find slugs don't mind crawling over it.
Gardening is a matter of your enthusiasm holding up until your back gets used to it.  :-) :-)

I haven't found a path that slugs don't like.  I've got mud, paving, poly bags covered with wood chip, weed suppressant + woodchip, and artificial grass.  I like the last one best but the slugs like them all.  ;)

We've got stones on ours, and I find the slugs like them less than when we've had bark paths at home in the garden.

Now there's an idea I'd not considered before...

Landscape membrane with three inches of compacted chipped bark/wood.

A few pellets along the edges where they join the raised beds cleared out a lot of slugs to start with and we get relatively few now.

Not that its available anymore, but power station clinker made a good path and no slugs would cross that.

Strawy manure works well and you can dig it in if you change your mind
Self-sufficient in rasberries and bindweed. Slug pellets can be handy.

conifer trimmings are good and seem almost indestructible, but I'm not sure whether slugs like it or not.
