Spring!
« on: February 28, 2013, 15:54 »
What a lovely day - sun is out and not too cold.  Snowdrops starting to emerge and the wild birds are singing their hearts out. Really nice to see the girls out (with cockerel as minder nearby) scratching around and making contented sounds as they rip what is left of my lawn to bits! Just the sort of day that makes you glad to have chickens (and makes up for having to get up early on Sunday mornings to let them out and clear up all their grotty poops!).
Apologies for Pollyanna mode but it does give you a good feeling!  :)

Totally agree, and the girls get an extra couple of hours playing out before bed time...I looked forward to weekends during the winter, as due to work, i felt like i hardly saw my girls during the week....i spent half an hour "digging" with them last night - well i tried, the minute i put my trowel anywhere near the soil i had 5 hens squabbling over my hand, seeing who might catch the first worm we uncovered. Love it, they're so comical!

Flippin heck!  I popped my spring thoughts on here about digging worms with my girls, and then last Sunday I spent 3 hours digging snow out of my girls' walk in roofed run!!!  The snow had drifted and was over 3 ft deep in half of it, and the girls refused to leave the coop...
