Title: A tip for new gardeners.
Post by: Kleftiwallah on April 08, 2012, 20:58

After you have hoed out or scratched your groove (drill) and started to spread your seed in the groove, before you stand up to 'unknot' your back / admire the work so far / or refil your hand, drop a pebble or a small lump of soil at the place you have reached.

It's a begger trying to see the seeds and tell where you got to, easy with seeds of parsnip, but not so easy to see with turnip or swede.  ::)

Cheers, Tony.

you could also try mixing your seed with sand - which will give you a better distribution ans you can see where they are!

I make the v-trench. hold the seeds in left hand. and drop seeds for a feet or two with right hand. and cover it up. tap it with my hand so I have finger markings. and continue.
finally I water the finger marked lanes.  :)

good thinking , I tend to make a v groove the pour some boiling water down the length of the drill wait for a few minuites the sow into the now warm damp soil , and hopefully the initial boiling water helps kill any weed seeds  ;)

I can't remember... so I have a label ready to stick in the last module I have 'seeded'. When I have finished it goes at the end so I don't sow the whole thing twice

Nice ideas. I particularly like the boiling water thing.  :) Might try the sand trick at the same time.
