Title: Whitefly, & Weedkiller Woes
Post by: John on June 06, 2021, 10:55
After I send out the newsletter I’m swamped with emails back asking questions. Now to be quite honest, I can’t reply individually to everyone (although I try) or I’d get nothing done. Answering a question about whitefly and a problem from using weed and feed on the lawn grass.

I understand what your saying about using pesticides John and I personally have gone down the road of making my own organic pesticide however i would say that most commercial growers use a chemical pesticide and lets face it most people are just not interested in what growers use only that its a nice round or pointed green cabbage with no insects crawling inside it or leaves that look like there been through a shredder as long as it looks good and its a reasonable price who cares  ;)

What worries me most is the cocktail effect. A little bit of chemical A is safe and a little bit of chemical B is safe but what about when you have both together. With the thousands of chemicals in use, it's impossible to test all the possible combinations. And then there is the 'organic' produce that isn't, imports from countries that don't follow the rules that our farmers do and so on.
Personally I do use pesticides but it's a last option when I practically don't have another way. I'm pretty sure anything I've grown is a lot safer than most of the veg in the supermarket.
