Title: Straw Bale Gardening
Post by: Abunndance on May 20, 2021, 11:38
Hi Everyone!  I am using an American method of planting my veg this year using straw bales.  It's very popular over there, but I don't see anyone else using it over here but me - Nutball Susie!  I've constructed a compost pile enclosure with them and planted potatoes, cauliflower and cabbages on top.  I have them in my polytunnel and am growing tomatoes and peppers in them, onions also.  I have them in our garden and right now they have strawberry plants, haricot beans, cabbages, petunias and marigolds in them.  I still have to put the pumpkins and cucumbers in and am waiting for some radishes to poke through.  Any other eccentric people out there like me?

Interesting, I saw it done at one of the RHS gardens a couple of years ago, but mainly tomatoes & cucumbers I believe, apparently watering was an issue, so it will be interesting  to see how you get on in a poly tunnel, please update us on you’re progress & welcome to the site
