Title: Fruit trees/bushes
Post by: Dantheman on December 13, 2012, 13:31
Hi guys,

I have a question for you.  What is the latest time recommended to move fruit tress and bushes? as I'm little late in getting the plot sort (moved around).
They are all still in pots so wasn't sure.

thanks

Anytime whilst they are dormant is fine  :)

Don't move into frozen ground (if you have to take a pickaxe or crowbar to it).  Don't move it if the ground is waterlogged but between bouts of frosty weather, now is a good time.  Don't forget to incorporate good compost or well rotted manure.

Plant to the same height it was in the pot and tread the soil down firmly.  Ensure the hole is square as 'it has been found' that in a round hole the roots grow following the softer soil in a circular motion and do not break out into the firmer soil which they do when encountering a 'corner'.

Ensure you drive in a stake BEFORE planting the tree so you don't damage a root.

Easy Peasy.   Cheers,  ::)  Tony.
