Organic slug pellets?
« on: June 08, 2011, 14:12 »
Can anyone suggest an organic or wildlife friendly slug pellet?
After moving into a garden with a lot more wildlife (birds and hedgehogs) we no longer want to use the normal bright blue ones. At the moment we have put some copper pipe around and about but some things still get nibbled on so think we need something a little extra! Thank you!

The first on the scene was "Growing Success" slug and snail killer but I think I've seen rival versions in the garden centres recently.

The thing to look out for is the active ingredient which is Ferric Phosphate rather than metaldehyde (or sometimes methiocarb) used in the traditional baits.

They're still blue though, albeit with a possibly slightly greenish tinge (presumably in line with their more wildlife-friendly image!)

Shop around - the prices seem to vary quite a lot!
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!

One of the best things about being an orang-utan is the fact that you don't lose your good looks as you get older
