They need the block spread, as each 'silk' equals one 'seed' on the cob, so there's an awful lot of mating to go on before you get the full cob you want. (Mods please bear with me..;0)

We chucked the last three from twenty plants, as they'd only just formed, and weren't worth the hassle, as they're tough at this late stage - not like the earlier ones which were fantastic!

We've had enough now anyway, time for something else...

Are they fat and white - pollinated and edible but pale - or skinny white?

Skinny white is either not pollinated, or only just pollinated and not swollen yet. If the tassels at the top are finished they won't get pollinated now  :(

long fat and white bigger than any ive seen in a supermarket. just white

Some varieties are much paler than others, Marai White for example, from Jungleseeds  ;)

they look like that i must admit, but on the packet they are bright yellow cobs. i'll dig the packet out i still have some seed
