Title: My new strawberry cage
Post by: crowndale on May 30, 2007, 15:44
Very proud of this I am, all hand made and designed by myself.  I am hoping it will last many years as the plan is to dismantle it each autumn and reassemble in the spring.  It has three hinged roof panels (all conveniently and coincidentally the right size for the width of the wire mesh).  In terms of time it would have been cheaper to buy a ready made one, but there's nowt so satisfying as DIY!

Thankyou!  Have to come on here to share my brilliance as my kids just glaze over at anything DIY or gardening related!

Top job.  I'll bet Mrs Crowndale is glad to have you around for these DIY jobs

I'm like a worm!  (Hermaphrodite-ish) For all mummy jobs i am mrs crowndale and mr crowndale just has to sit back and wonder at my superb housekeeping skills.  When there is serious DIY or gardening to be done the mr crowndale takes over and mrs crowndale sits back in wonder and brings out the stella from the fridge.  Makes dating a bit tricky, who am I going to be tonight?!!

Not wild, just very scared of birds!!  and cats.

I would take orders ziggy if it didn't take me so long to make the things!  I am also not convinced they were any cheaper than buying ready made but just more fun!  Took me three weeks to get them made.  Next job is the new path which I am hoping to make a start on today.

Wow Crowndale, you may also need a spare one just in case disaster strikes with the original - can you knock another one up and lend it to me indefinitely?...(so I can put the guinea pigs out in it on the front lawn!)

Some one asked me while I was making it if it was a rabbit run!!

I thought chicken run when I saw it, because I've got 5 rolls of  1.5m x 0.6m of identical mesh (75% off at Wilko last Autumn) waiting for me to build one, but my wife wants it so the sides all fold flat by using hinged side sections and drop in top panels (and a chick house and new strawberry netting and fruit cages and another hen house) and I just want to get everything planted and then go fishing.

First rule for husbands - always do what wifey wants you to before attempting anything you may want to do should this differ from what wifey wants - follow this and life will be wonderful for all of us

A very fine job there, Crowndale. I'm guessing that you did a better job than anything you could buy. Just make sure any strong winds can't take it for a ride.
