Nice work, Leeky. Over here, all our railway sleepers are heavily treated with black creosote, which will leach into the soil, so they're not a good choice for us

Actually Trillium, so are the ones I've seen over here.  I've never seen such clean square cut railway sleepers in my life before, where'd you get em Leeky????

hi all

you can buy these new sleepers from most builders merchants approx £18.00 each or there abouts.  they are prone to cracking and splitting when the weather is warm for any prolonged period as i have found out this year.

cheers

you are not that far from me and i cant understand why you would think they would be that expensive

do you have the adtrader in your part

sorry to jump in fellas, but they can be found cheap. mate told me other day about 15 for 30 quid or was it 10 for 30 quid? any road up even if hiring a van for half a day to go and get them plus the gas, still a nice deal.

I was quoted on sleepers recently at a salvage yard near Wigan.  Seventeen quid plus VAT (almost exactly 20 quid) for an 8' 6" used sleeper.

i wouldn't bother with those cheap baltic pine sleepers - i'll stick to chestnut rounds and half rounds for my raised beds (they will outlive me) and i get them very very cheap
