... and I thought you were going to keep the worms in it!!!

You need to read the post too : "There are three possible products from a wormery : worms, compost and liquid manure. I concentrate on the first two only"     The liquid drains into the ground underneath to enrich it.

i did read it, honest

didnt see where it said to have holes in the bags to drain, thats all

anyway, a chap at work brought a load of junk in to freecycle, givin us a chance to get it before it goes on the freecycle. This included a pair of pushbike wheel rims - im got these cos they are 26" wide, i recon i could use em to make a wormery (along wi some wood) or a deep planter :D

I'll let you off this time.     I guess I assumed that since the top was open and I didn't collect the liquid, then they had to drain.   You can be sure that I'll be planting a courgette or something adjacent to get the goodness back!

Pushbike wheel rims : stick 'em on top of a post and run strings down to support beans, peas, sweet peas

thats an option for them, another is to make a nice big riddle out of 'em, ive plenty of weldmesh :D (actually this was my first thought when i spotted them)

or they could make the frame for a big deep tub

Does your present job finish in 2012 when the terrestial TV service gets switched off?  Will you need a spacesuit to go to work in after that?

Just curious ... that's all.

sadly, no :D  as the changeover occurs i simply get more digital rubbish to keep running and less analogue, until i come in one shift and its all digital (and probably broken  )

wont need a spacesuit, but probably some furry slippers and a comode...

To get back to the serious subject - this is how I did it and has kept worms happy for 2 years. get one of those useless £8.00 'dalek' composters that councils are always advertising = you can usually find somebody who bought one willing to give it away. Then get a plastic 'ali baba' type laundry bin (thats the thing your missus puts your dirty clothes in after she picks them up off the floor) and drill lots more holes in the bottom. Put this inside the dalek raised on bricks and add worms, wet newspaper and compost. they like the dark and the insulation from heat and cold, and to access the worm compost just remove the dalek and tip the ali baba out. Also is pretty ratproof if sited well.
