Title: Hen House Plans
Post by: Zak the Rabbit on March 03, 2007, 17:58
Hi All,

as promised (long ago, i know) heres the plans that i followed for my chookhouse. I scaled the dimensions down to half the floor space for mine, as this design is for twice as many chooks as i intend to have

well, mine was only half the floor area and built using wood salvaged from pallets, and a few spare fence posts, the pallets cost me £1.50 each and i needed about 10. Other wood i had spare.

The hardware is the most expensive - it uses a lot of nails! Use annular ring nails if you can.

Even buying everything new, it should be less than a ton (£100), but dont forget a run as well, and to account for the cost of feeders, feedstuffs etc!

not yet, still a bit of finishing off to do, and the run to complete (nearly there!)

should be all done and everything bought and ready by end of the month, then i will get some chooks in april at the selby livestock auction.

Im only working normal office hours this week, so hopefully will get the run finished.

Try your local salvage yard, any pallets at factorys etc, I built one out of MDF once and yes I know your not supposed to put MDF outside but I glossed mine, think the only thing I paid 4 was the bolt for the door and a couple of hinges. Out lived my hens 2+ yrs easily.

Basically scrounge
