Pepper advice
« on: March 10, 2010, 19:42 »
I have some Denver F1 pepper seed from Dobies of Devon, just reading the sowing guide and could do with a bit of advice.
Do i follow the guide which says " Pinch out growing point when plants are 6" tall" this seems quite small to me. as it then goes on to say use 2 ft 6" canes for support  does not seem to make sense. wondered if someone could enlighten me  ::)

Thanks Shane

Shane, you would pinch the growing tip out at 6" to make the plant bush out.

Pinching them out at 6"will encourage them to bush out earlier, but they will still grow to a good height.

I don't pinch mine out if they are bushing by themselves - as I reckon it knocks them back a couple of weeks. Depends on variety mostly, I guess.

I grew 2 cayenne peppers side by side last year, one I pinched out, the other I left to its own devices.

No difference, both formed rather alarmingly larges bushes (they were on a sunny windowsill indoors!)

As Kristen says though, different varieties may respond in different ways.
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!
