Hi John
Just to go on a bit  I have always got decent Parsnips but this year is something special. The difficulty is getting them out of the ground they have grown so deep. I grow in deep beds so my parsnips are quite close together and yet I have not taken one yet that has been anything other than huge! I have found the only way to harvest them is to get a digging spade and get it well into the ground the lever and break the root but even then they are still about an inch or more in diameter at a depth of 45 cm ! Sadly I think many may go to waste because my neighbours do not eat them and there must be about thirty roots in the bed and being only two of us that is a lot of parsnips to eat one does us two huge helping meals .

Well done John, I went to harvest some parsnips today for dinner tomorrow but as there’s only me that will eat them I stopped at this one

jambop - that's amazing! I don't want to rain on your parade but see photo below! Seriously, I suspect your weather down there is helpful

Following a germination disaster, a fellow allotmenteer gave me 3 parsnip plants that I planted out.  I know I saw leaves from all 3, but when I came to dig them up before Christmas, I could only find one - and that one was smaller than my thumb!!
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...
