If I make apple sauce as normal and put it in a jar will it keep till Christmas??? I would like to put some in my hamper you see! What do you think guys?
-
I think you would need to seal the jar then sterilise in a pan of boiling water for 20 mins Matilda.
That would keep the contents for ages and then the lucky recipient can use when they like, but you'd need to label 'keep in fridge and use up in a couple of days once opened'

Can I put the filled jars in a pan of water and boil them to steralized them??
-
It might be easier to just sterilise the jars in the oven and then bottle the apple suace while hot

That's how I do the jams and chutneys, but link that was on says I have to resteralize?? How confused am I??? I must sound really thick!

Sorry Matilda - I don't think my reply was clear enough. I meant put the sauce in the clean jar, seal, then put in boiling water for 20 mins. It kills all bacteria in there and as long as the jar is kept closed, no more can get in to make the contents go off.
Hope this is not too late for your hamper

Bless you all! I've re-read the replys and I think I must have had too much to drink :tongue2: it all made sense first time round. How daft am I?
Anyway they were made and everyone said how nice it was! ;)
thankyou all x
