Then shallots in modules followed by sweet peas in root trainers or empty toilet roll middles, broad beans, worth a try with a few winter lettuce or baby leaves.Wish I followed my own advise.

Result on your Christmas present  :D

While it is empty, it is a great time to get your staging and insulation set up as the others have said.

My greenhouse is currently home to shallots which have been planted in modules as snowdrop advises.  Most seeds respond to day length as well as temperature, so I'd hold fire until the end of the month before sowing much else.

I've got onions on the windowsill inside as well which will go to the greenhouse once they are up  :)

The shallots are sets, but the onions are seeds.  Following the advice of the onion gurus on Grow Your Own.  Start inside now and transfer to the greenhouse at crookneck stage to get decent sized bulbs later in the year.  My efforts at growing onions from seed have been dismal so far, so trying this method  :)

I'll hold fire on most other stuff for a few more weeks yet  :D

Thanks. Only asking, as you do damn good looking beetroot and I just read, the best shallots are grown from seed.

I've got shallot seeds as well Gobs   Darn those 50p seed sales

The packet I have says sow March/April outside where they are to grow whereas the onions did give an option of indoor sowing in January.  They actually went in a few days ago.

Thank you for the compliment on the beetroot.  It's one of my faves.  Easy to grow and planting out clumps from modules really works for me  :D

Have some onion and sweet pea seeds at the ready....Unfortunately, while I was hunting for bubble wrap, OH decided empty greenhouse made a good spot for his workbench, saw and a spot of wood cutting >:(
