Your experiences please.

Always grew them in pots in my small greenhouse as i didn't have the room in border soil
but now i have room in my new polytunnel.

What do you do, or have done?
Liv.

I've done both, but usually have more success with planting them direct, as I sometimes forget to water them!   :(

In the past I've grown them in big pots and had only a few fruits :(

I seem to get bigger plants when they're grown in the border, and a better yield. This year I've also chosen a variety that seems to grow a bit bigger, according to the write-ups, so have opted for the border again :)

I grew them in large pots in the greenhouse last year.  Got lovely healthy, busy plants but no fruit at all  :(
3 dogs now, 2 passed RIP Poppy and Paige, one wonderful husband and a new adventure on this wonderful island

Oooh! That all sounds good. I've always managed some fruit when i've grown them in pots,
will definitely  put them in border soil this year and am hoping to pleasantly surprised.

Thanks ladies.

I used to grow in pots (Toms, Cues, Peppers, Aubergines, Melons), and switched to Border 3 years ago an am much happier :)

I change the soil each year; its a 50:50 mix of well rotted manure and rough compost from last year's heap. So its not as heavy to change as my clay would be ...

By the end of the year the Manure/Compost mix that comes out is just right for the rest of the veg patch!

I planted six plug pepper plants from wilkos about six weeks ago. They are growing nicely should I feed them if so what with and when should bell peppers start to form?
All the way from my allotment in beautiful Derbyshire. I'm in year 3 of my allotment and wish I'd caught the bug years ago, things growing from strength to strength

Pass on border feeding. In bags, I give a 2.1.4 feed at 1/100 every day from first fruit set.

Earliest harvest is some 2 months. I've had them take 5 months! (Cold 'house)

The normal advice is to feed the 1/2 strength tom food once a fortnight once they start setting flowers.

Personally I've been feeding mine an extremely diluted ( 1/100 ) seaweed food since they were first potted on.
