I have just put a cold frame up on my allotment.  Any tips for getting full use of it?

You can use a cold frame for lots of things, like hardening off new plants, making plants bigger when its cold outside, not frost or snow though. Keeps wind off things. I use mine when Ive run out of space in the greenhouse and when the plants are so big they go in coldframe, potting on etc.
Kind Regards
Bill

When mine has done its job of protecting and hardening off young plants I use it to grow bush tomatoes in (I have to raise the covers and eventually remove them altogether but it does give them some protection from the elements and a slightly better chance of avoiding blight spores landing on them.)
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!

I grow our salad material in deep beds/baths, I made poly covers to help with the cold and wet conditions. Here is a short video ...

Mine shrank, must be the cold weather! ;)

I knew those old floppy disc boxes would come in useful one day!
