AAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRGGGGHHH!!! KIDS!
« on: April 18, 2007, 18:59 »
My kids are very good at entertaining themselves whilst I busy in the lotment and garden, today Daughter (4) came to me with a handful of flowers and said "some yummy sweets for you Mummy" I looked and she had picked off 2 handfuls of the tiny strawberry flowers forming on my second year plants I was hoping for a bumper crop from them... will they recover? are they likely to throw off more flowers knowing the others have gone?

I had to deep breathe my way through calmness.
But here we are!!

Hehee, She did look very worried when I explained that each of those flowers was going to grow into a strawberry and now it won't.  But there are others And  I will get her to help me feed them and teach her to look after them, we still have to contend with my son now who is nearly 2 and watches her every move so I might have to watch him carefully.. OK More carefully as today he scribbled on the sitting room carpet (beige) with a green felt tip!!

Heehee I do love them!

Wonderful! You`re 2 yr old will understand that you do not eat flowers so will go for the strawbies but will have no idea of the difference between red and green(same with toms but grow a tumbling one and there are so many fruit it doesn`t matter),you also need to explain about picking fruit using 2 hands or you will face trying to replant numerous plants pulled out by the roots.
My small will be 4 in June and goes to the local school nursery and today `planted`cabbages in part of the school garden. They are also talking about mini bugs and so when I asked her what the plants would grow she said caterpillar's was quite impressed. The down side is that Mrs Perkins v Mummy on should mini beast slugs be squished ,Mrs Perkins won!I expect she will be vanquished if I offer head torches! :)
