I thought a thread of pictures of folk's plots would be fun.
I need to take an up to date one to add... but in the meantime....
this is me relaxing in my greenhouse a couple of years ago.....
My children hate that hat BTW. Got called "the flowerpot lady" by some of their friends when I wore it out once! !

My plot is in my back garden, hoping to expand to an allotment sometime in the next two years.
This is the main plot, got salad stuff at the front, then peas (4 are poking their heads up today, first new growth this year, yea!), then raspberries, strawberries and then carrots and brocoli (which will move to the other bed in the summer when it is finished (the broc that is, not the carrots!).
The second plot is still a work in progress! But hope to have half of it dug over tomorrow and then put in some early spuds followed by main crop. The second half hopefully will be enough for some brussels and sprouting brocoli, if not then I am going to borrow some space at a friends allotment.

Lovely pic salkeela....looks like the epitomy of gardening!! :)
Crowndale...looking good!! :)

Couple of piccies from our B&B website. Taken in late autumn last year. Sadly, the thing at the bottom of the garden is not a polytunnel.

Yup thanks, that has been Home Sweet Home for 3 days short of 21 years. Lucky we bought it when we did 'cos we couldn't afford to buy it now!

Great pictures, how did you manage to get such good birds eye views?

Either owns a helicopter or is very good on trampoline
-
My birds eye one was done from a plane.....but the cameras are so good they can pinpoint your house etc and get a clear pic.

That is a lovely picture... just embodies that "feeling" (of some hard graft followed by relaxing and enjoying the surroundings)

Let's see if I can get this one right!
My veg patch in 2005 before the poly was over the tunnel, and a pic of the completed polytunnel!

Thanks for the comments on my greenhouse pic... it's one of the few photos with me in it that I like!
Here's a couple more... the greenhouse this evening (and rasberries with their hay mulch in the foreground, rhubarb under hay on right).

Looking back the other way... (house on left of pic)
And the beds on the other side of the house. These beds started with cardboard and compost over the grass... hay also mulching round the peas (foreground) and spuds (far bed)

It is fun to get a nosy at other folks space. Thanks for sharing.
I'd love an arial shot. Google earth is rather blurry still!

When we lived in Essex, a man came to the door with a framed aerial photo our our house. Tried to sell it to me for £60. I can't afford it I said. Well its no good to me if you don't want it he said, how about £30? No, sorry I said I really can't afford it.
He came back a couple of days later, look he said, how about £15. No one will want it and the frame is worth that!
So I bought it, and it was a lovely photo, but when we moved, I left it there as my daughter and her boyfriend and his mum & Dad bought the house from us

I'll try and remember to take a camera up to the allotment tomorrow.. haven't remembered so far but need to get some pics anyway for posterity.. and I'm very proud of my first ever hand built "pea/bean tent"
-
Oh yeah, you gotta take your before and after shots beerhunter. Its amazing how different everything looks once stuff is growing.

Same thing happened to my grandparents in the late 50's (I think.. based on the size of the trees)... and for the grandchildren that photo is a lovely memory of open space, orchards of plums and apples.. and the swing. Unfortunately the land was bought by the council/a developer.. and now there is a ring road and housing estate on it

I just need a kick... I'll post a pic tomorrow eve. I wish we (I'm sharing a plot) had taken a pic in Nov last year... wasn't too bad (lots of that horrible grass stuff you have to dig out and but only a few brambles), in my eyes it now puts most of the other holders to shame 8)
-
We all need a kick at times! I have a terrible habit of leaving things until the last minute, then panicking and trying to get everything done at once!!!

About 15 years ago we got a photo the same way. Just the photo mind - he took the frame back! Paid £10 for it.
However the place is much changed since then..... we put on an extension and did some landscaping of the garden. Also built a couple of sheds... etc. Green house only went up 2 years ago.

I tried http://maps.live.com/default.aspx?wip=2&v=2&style=r&mkt=en-gb&rtp=~&&msnurl=home.aspx?%26redirect%3dfalse&msnculture=en-Uk - doesn't it have maps of N Ireland then?
-
and also these google/msn maps are years old,the google one of our area must be 5-6 years old at least
-
I've been messing with the google earth image. Can't actually see a lot of detail from the image, but using picture editor and paint I did a colour map of my garden... ! (We're very lucky here to have quite a bit of space.)
Hope this works!
One label missing - the bright green area bottom right is a bank where horse manure was ditched last couple of years. I covered it in membrane in Jan. Now membrane removed & it's been covered in cardboard and hay. I'm going to plant my squash there. :)

Thanks Salkeela ,I was wondering what went wrong !! Its time I get back to the garden and leave the technical stuff to my hubby !

Oh corndolly, that looks lovely!

very nice corndolly your doing a great job,a real credit to yer

Having only started in Nov, there's not much to see yet, but I'm getting there :)

I've got the 3 beds at the front (approx 3'x12' each) and 4 at the back (also approx 3'x12') - just in front of the tree. Just in front of that is the weed pile... it's grown quite big! The middle bit is managed by someone I share the plot with.
On the right is my pea (under the plastic bottles) / bean (broad beans have just appeared today) tent.. and on the left (in the bed without muck) are my potatoes, and on the left of the a line of compost bins.
-
Looking good Beerhunter.

Well, here's my magnificent ( ) acreage! Shot from the centre point in each direction:

The veg plot (above) I've had for a year, the orchard plot ((below)I've had a month. I put the pond in over the Easter weekend by a hazel tree on the orchard plot, in the hope of attracting some slug munching critters :D The ground around it is pretty uncultivateable, so that will be a seating and wildflower area. The re-used car tyres will form seats, I plan at some point to fill them with soil and plant them up with thyme and chamomile to make scented chairs. They're not too uncomfortable as they are, though - so it's not a priority!
The veg plot is on an eight year rotation (spuds, roots, sweetcorn, onions, peas, brassicas, squash, beans), and the plan for the orchard plot is to cut the brambles down to ground level, and then zap the new growth with glyphosate. It's all but impossible to dig them out manually, as I have a dodgy back, and OH has just ripped the muscle under his shoulder blade in a work accident, so I've lost my undergardener
All early days, I'm very, very new to growing veg, but I'm quite proud of what I've done so far :)
-
It's coming along, ytyynycefn (that's a mouthful if you don't know how to pronounce it  ). Some stones built up as an exit from the pond would help the critters who are a bit awkward at climbing. don't want a bunch of drowning victims. And a bit of special oxygenating weed would help keep it clear and provide shelter for them to hide under. Anywhere that sells pond supplies should have some.
Just watched a travelogue on the UK and Wales and the guide crossed a very big beautiful bridge into Wales. Is that the one you try to avoid? They'd been to Glastonbury and sampled scrumpy. Now I know what it is
-
My little spot of heaven  looking up the hill. The little bit at the front with the plank has been commandeered by the younger children, half of which has been sown with hardy annuals.
Helps if I post the pic

Lots of nice tidy plots mate and what a huge tunnel frame. Looks like a pleasant setting as well.
-
chears mate that tunnel belongs to a chap who loves his cabbages and caulis, when hes planted it up i will post a pic,he moves it every year, the plastic is 2"waste pipe inserted into metal tubes.so when he moves it he only moves one side and swings the plastic arches around,(if you know what i mean)
a bit over the top this one but he changes his boots every time he goes in there and has 1 set of tools for in there also (clubroot)
-
Gotcha whats he cover it with fleece or that green peforated stuff, don't know what its called.

-
Great pictures everyone. Thanks.
We should do a round up again in the summer...... kinda to show off progress. I've noticed a lot of growth this last week and it's SOOO encouraging!
:)
Keep the piccies rolling.
-
don't forget that progress pics can be uploaded to the album - then you haven't got to search through all the threads to find 'em :)

Denise
Haven't done it myself but
here's a 3 minute thing about forcing rhubarb (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xFOi1yisZS8)
You can also do it with asparagus and sea kale.
I've heard that if you do it with dandilions the leaves aren't so bitter but you know, dandilions!!! Have tried it and hated it. Tastes a bit like rocket to me.
-
Thanks, that may be handy to know next year. I don't think I'm going to be ready for rhubarb until then
Denise
-
Do you have both those strips welly? If so then you jammy dodger you! The plots I am waiting for are the size of one strip only, used to be double that but demand is pushin the parish to half the size of the plots to allow more people on! It's a very neat and well dug over site, I'm well impressed!
-
... the path is just a means of getting from one end to the other ... :D
It's never occurred to me to split it up into smaller beds, I just carried on with the way it was before I got it.
I do love my plot and my lovely old shed!
-
a panoramic view of our plot... ours is in the middle with the blue water "bucket" :)

Three Roses from the air, there are 14 adults with learning disabilities living here, most of them like to work in the garden, they enjoy eating the fruits of all our labour ! Its healthy exercise and therapeutic in lots of ways too .

Great pics Corndolly. My brother in law lives in a sheltered community (Camphill type) and gardens most mornings. He loves it.... although I'm not convinced he'd be the fastest worker!
ETA... Wellingtons, Sadgit and others.... I'm loving all these photos. A real inspiration.
-
Salkeela ,We're enjoying the photos too ! I know the Camphill movement we are similar ,I,m sure your brother loves it. Our helpers are'nt the fastest either but they have lots of enthusiasm and are rightly proud of their achievements. :)

Took no. 2 son (13 with DS) to my friends allotment the other day to do some digging. he kind of jabbed at the concreted clay, muttered a bit and then asked when we were going home! He does like to eat the produce, but isn't exactly a willing worker! Mind you his friend becky (daughter of allotment holder) doesn't go down there at all, maybe it's just a teenage thing?! At home he pops his head round the door to make sure I am where I said I would be, nods appreciatively at my hard work then retreats to the playroom again!
I don't know why none of my kids like the great outdoors, I can't bear to be indoors in this weather.
-
nice cabbages you have there.got any tips ?
-
nice cabbages you have there.got any tips ?
yeah live in spain :)
-
Shaun - no magic ideas but I think our very alkaline soil suits cabbages although we have improved it a lot with manure and compost. They were planted out in November (bought in as 4" high plants - I don't know what variety) which meant that the cabbage white butterflies had gone by then so no caterpillars this year. We had quite a mild sunny winter here this year in contrast to the last two which had temps of down to minus 12! The downside to that is that we have had to water at least every other day all through the winter up to about 2 weeks ago when the rain started.
-
well dawn whatever it is they are great,so no clubroot then ?
-
Shaun I think I read somewhere that clubroot does not like alkaline conditions. Also the ground here has never been cultivated before so no nasties like that (yet) but there are monster ants, snakes and tarantula like spiders - its a trip to A&E if either of the last two bites you. Its not all fun in the sun!
-
Can we keep this thread going so the newer members can update everyone on their plot and greenhouses ?
-
ill try and get some pics of my new plot , well its not new but you know what i mean.
-
we have two plots, one for veg and one for fruit, both are works in progress at the moment
(http://i232.photobucket.com/albums/ee208/lucywil_album/plot59.jpg)
plot 59, will be for fruit, have put raspberries in and there are 3 large gooseberry bushes at the bottom
(http://i232.photobucket.com/albums/ee208/lucywil_album/plot61.jpg)
plot 61 (and son moving his tractor- i wish it had an engine!) i am a bit behind with the digging, and i am slowly removing the grass paths.

According to what's showing, you've either moved or deleted the pictures. Have you done anything since posting them?
Can you still see them yourself?
-
Yes i have always been able to see them. I did move them to a subfolder, have now moved them back does that help?
Cawdor
-
Yes - can see them again now.
You were probably viewing them from your cache. (At least this is what somebody else has said in the past!).
-
Thanks DD. For everyone else the pics are back on page 6 if you are wondering what the hell we are going on about.
