Cat with Broken Pelvis
« on: October 08, 2011, 10:59 »
HI

Someone I know, their cat got run over & has a broken pelvis.

Now it was touch & go for a while (luckily a passer by found him & got him to the 24hr vet around the corner)

He's made it home, but he's on severe cage rest for a few months.

He can stand for a bit, walk a few steps & wag his tail.

Has anyone had experience of this ? What is his prognosis ? Will he be 100% or maybe be left with a limp ect ?

Thanks for any input.

My neighbour's cat broke its pelvis by being running over but it recovered  :)

cats can recover from extraordinary accidents, which would stop a lot of humans!
They are very good at adjusting their balance to compensate for any injury so that you'd never know anything had happened to them :)

We have had several cats with "back end" injuries who have all gone on to recover well. We have one who was very badly injured who is now incontinent at times but she lives in the surrounding fields and only comes back for food so it's not a problem. I think there was some damage to the nerves in her spine though. Most seem to make remarkable recoveries.

Thanks for the input.

He's looking happier just being home.

It was touch & go for a while, all down to whether he could go to the loo or not, but he seems to be improving.

Thanks.

Mrs Digger ran over one of our cats a few years back. She made a full recovery, in fact she was better than when she started as the antibiotics given to her seemed to clear up a urine problem she had had for a while. (She stopped peeing on the carpet at every opportunity).

Sadly no longer with us, but lived to be 19 years old.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?
