Alternative material for polytunnel covering?
« on: February 04, 2013, 09:00 »
Has anyone ever tried or seen corrugated plastic sheeting as a cover for a poly-tunnel?

I seems like a good idea to me but there may be problems I have not thought of! any info please.

Yes, my neighbours have it in a sheltered position. It's been there for quite a few years now (4+) and seems quite sturdy. Despite the sheltered position it has split a little in some areas and gone green because it's not cleaned often. The main issue seems to have been stopping up the gaps properly.

I think corrugated plastic might cut out quite a lot of useful light, as degrading polytunnel plastic does.

Polytunnels tend to flex more in the wind than greenhouses, which might explain why a relatively inflexible material like corrugated plastic develops cracks.
