Just a reminder, as grapes start to fall from vines, that they are toxic to dogs, and can be fatal to some. Our young dog came in with one today, luckily only playing, so I thought I'd remind all dog owners.

thankyou for the warning, i didnt know that grapes are toxic, as my german shep eat about a half pound of them, so nicked them from the fridge 1 night, :mad: and no side effects so far and that was 2 weeks ago...

I've never heard of this before either, I have had lots of dogs that have eaten grapes with no ill effects

I had a dog once who used to like grapes, an adored mince pies. It is only fairly recently that I have found out that some dogs can have a severe reaction. A bit like chocolate, some dogs can eat it, some get poisoned. Best to be on the safe side.

could it be that when grapes drop they are start to forment or could it be the pips inside the grapes??

I hadn't heard this one either, so looked it up. They can cause kidney failure, raisins are more concentrated and therefore more toxic so it won't be the pips.

My dog once at a fresh bunch of grapes which I'd just put on the worktop. I had to nip out and when I got back he'd climbed onto the worktop via a convenient chair and scoffed the lot. He had extreme diahorrea afterwards and his guts were in turmoil :(

I'm in no danger of this problem with the Collie, as the nearest she will go to any fruit or veg is a bit of potato. The old boy, on the other hand, used to enjoy a wide variety of fruit and veg including grapes.

our greman shep who is 18 months old loves raw veg and loves potatos, she seem to think they are tennis balls??? and loves playing and eating them but then she does eat anything and yes anything, phones,camcorders,wooden spoons, anything to do with cooking she will have a try on, sofa's(her own), i think the only thing she hasnt eaten is shoes... ::)

Our yearling is prone to eating anything she can get her very strong teeth in to. Surprised we haven't had an emergency yet!

That top photo is the same face my dog pulls after she's done something naughty, tosca! It's kind of says 'I know I shouldn't have, but look what I've done, don't you think it looks better like this?' and/or 'You still love me, don't you?'! ::) :lol:

I once had a dog who didn't like being on her own, separation issues they call it now ::)
I'd gone to visit a friend in the village and on the way home popped into the shop for something only to be handed my paper, I was told it hadn't been put through the letter box because there wasn't one, the dog had chewed it's way out and the paper boy had locked it in the back garden for me.
One of the benefits of living in a small village :D

I wish Bella was only naughty cos she had separation anxiety, but alas it is because she is just a fun loving girl who can dig a hole/wreck a bed/shred a mag in ten seconds flat while you are in the other room. She is teaching Bonnie bad ways.....I caught them one each end of a new duvet bed the other day, trying to make it two, while I was peeling spuds.
Life is never dull with these two, especially Bella.

We always knew when Fudge was coming into season because that was the only time she ever 'ate' any shoes she found! If you lost any underwear the first place to look was always Rocky's bed and it was guaranteed you would find it!
