Title: Anyone know anything about pond pumps?
Post by: coco on July 11, 2019, 12:46
Just that really.

Someone gave us a pump years ago but it's packed up and the poor fish are now living in very dirty water, thing is I've tried looking at getting a new one but I have absolutely no idea what I'm looking for.

It's a smallish pond 2x1x1 metres, it has a waterfall on the end, we have no filters or anything so will be looking at a new system I think.

Any help or a point in the right direction much appreciated.

A lot of considerations here.
I have a pump that sends water to a box with filters in it, water goes in at the top through the filters but comes out at the top to a pipe that supplies the waterfall.
I bought a pump that can handle large particles. Woops! Newts and tadpoles could get sucked in and spat out into the filter dead. :-(
To solve this problem I have had to cover it with fine mesh netting.
BUT if you buy a pump with filter sponge that defeats the object of having a box with filter sponge that is more efficient.
Speak to your local aquatic supplier.

Hi, Sorry if not allowed to add links.  I would work out the volume of water (https://www.swelluk.com/pond-volume-calculator.html) you have then get a pump to suit to pump the water though once an hour.  For more oxygen for the fish maybe split the line from the pump to the water fountain and to a hose close to waters edge adding a Venturi can be seen here 0ZMjDgM3LaU (7.23 in))
your fish will love you. :D  maybe add a filter brought or homemade HtMZRM3a5Fs (ignore the grow bed part of it). :D :D :D :D :D

Thank you both for your kind advice.

I think a trip to the local fish shop is in order, as the more I look the more confused I get.

Thanks
