G'day,
I sowed some creeping thyme seeds last week, a little late perhaps but some have germinated.
They are in small multi celled container, what is my next move to ensure as many as possible survive. I'm not sure sowing them in such a tiny environment was a good idea :unsure:

Leave them to grow on and get a couple more leaves before moving into bigger modules. I'd use a mix of soil and multipurpose compost for the move. They prefer something more gritty, some composts just seem to claggy for them to grow well IYKWIM?

Thanks, I've got a bag of sharp sand, I'll add some of that to the next stage. The compost I bought this year is very heavy and becomes quite solid if too wet.

I agree, wait till there are a few more leaves and the roots are holding the compost together nicely and then pot on to a larger container.

When you do pot them on, make sure to handle them by the leaves and not the stem - if you bruise the stem, the plant may not survive.

Following on from my original post, none of the seedlings survived. It was just too hot I think.
I knew I was too late with my sowing but did it as an experiment really.

I really want to try again, they are destined for the central strip down the drive, between the car tyres if that makes sense!
The strip is about 450mm wide and about 30m long so quite a few are needed.
I would think about 15-20 per 450x450 so 1000-1500 plants potentially! (http://emoticons.datahamster.com/yikes_anim.gif)
I'm not sure if I should try sowing the seeds directly into the soil. Or should I try the cells again, but that's a lot of cells! The seeds are minute, about the size of a full stop so difficult to sow as individuals but not impossible.
Some advise would be appreciated, before I put myself off completely!

I'd get a large plant pot and fill with a mix of compost and sharp sand then gently tamp it down. Get a little poly-bag, add a bit of sharp sand then add some seeds. Give it a shake then sprinkle on top of the pot. Cover with your mix if needed. This is a handy way of thinning out tiny seeds.
