SuperCook Bicarbonate of Soda isn’t just a kitchen essential – it’s super useful around the home too. You can use it for all sorts of cleaning jobs – from getting the oven squeaky clean, to adding a gleam to baths and bringing the sparkle back to glass and metal. Best of all, Bicarb is gentle on skin and kind to the environment too, so it’s a great alternative to bleach-based cleaning products. Just check out our great cleaning tips to see its many uses.

Removes crayon stains from walls Dip a damp cloth in Bicarb and scrub the crayon mark lightly to get rid of marks.

Restores the gleam to gilt picture frames Mix a beaten egg with a teaspoon of Bicarb. Apply with a pastry brush and then buff with a soft cloth.

Deodorises carpets, rugs and settees Sprinkle Bicarb on carpets, rugs and settees and leave overnight, then vacuum in the morning.

Cleans glass decanters Break a cleaned eggshell into tiny pieces and drop into the decanter along with a pinch of Bicarb and warm water. Shake the decanter and leave overnight. In the morning the residue will have shifted. Be sure to rinse very well afterwards, using a dash of white vinegar, to remove all traces of Bicarb.

Keeps flowers fresher for longer Add a pinch of Bicarb to a vase of water to stop water becoming stagnant and help flowers last longer.

Stops fireplace soot odour After you clean out your ash pan, sprinkle in some Bicarb and replace under the fire basket for a few hours or overnight. Remove used Bicarb before re-lighting fire.

Brings the shine back to silverware Polish silverware with dry Bicarb on a damp cloth. Rub, rinse and dry.

Removes grease from carpets Sprinkle with Bicarb and leave overnight before vacuuming to remove grease residue.

Gets ovens squeaky clean After cleaning the oven, brush the inside with a light Bicarb and water paste. When you next clean the oven the dirt will come away easily.

Removes stains from cups and pans Soak in Bicarb and water and stains will disappear.

Absorbs fridge and freezer odours Remove the top from the tub of Bicarb and place it on one of the shelves. From time to time, stir the contents.

Stops nasty niffs from sinks Pour a quarter tub Bicarb down the drain followed by 240ml of vinegar – it creates a chemical reaction that cleans drains, then flush with hot water.

Deters insects Sprinkle Bicarb around cabinets, cupboards and other places insects may run to get rid of them.

Cleans ceramic tea and coffee pots Fill your pot with half a tub of Bicarb and 6 ice cubes. Shake until stains go and wash out as normal.

Removes perspiration stains from laundry Wet the stained area and rub in some Bicarb before putting in the wash.

Stops microwave odours Keep an opened tub of Bicarb inside the microwave between uses to stop food smells.

Brings a gleam to baths and sinks Apply Bicarb with a damp cloth to remove stains and polish chrome fittings.

Cleans mildew from shower curtains Make a thick paste of Bicarb and water. Smear it on the curtain and leave overnight until dry. Then wash the curtain and the mould will disappear.

Keeps face cloths fresh Leave overnight to soak in a mixture of Bicarb and water – your face cloths will be fresher than if washed in most commercial products.

Stops bathroom odours Place an opened tub of Bicarb behind the toilet to absorb bathroom odours.

Removes stubborn stains To remove stubborn stains from plastic surfaces, scour with a paste of Bicarb and water.

Keeps toilets fresh and prevents blocking Flush half a tub of Bicarb down the toilet once a week to keep it fresh and prevent blocking or to keep your septic tank clear.

Cleans combs and brushes Put several tablespoons of Bicarb into a jar, add combs and brushes and pour in hot water. Leave overnight and rinse before use.

Gets rid of strong odours on your hands Wet your hands and rub them hard with Bicarb, then rinse.

Deters slugs and snails Sprinkle Bicarb onto plants to stop slugs and snails destroying them.

Cleans plastic garden furniture Sprinkle Bicarb on a damp sponge to clean up your garden furniture. Add a splash of lemon juice to restore whiteness.

Stops black mould on roses Add 100g of Bicarb to 150ml of water and spray on roses to stop black mould from spreading.

Cleans up decking Sprinkle Bicarb on your decking and then scrub off with a hard brush and bucket of water.

Adds sparkle to cars and motorbikes Apply Bicarb with a damp cloth to polish up chrome to a gleaming shine.

Removes rust from bikes Cut a potato, dip it in Bicarb and then rub away the rust.

Freshens up trainers Sprinkle a little Bicarb in each trainer and leave overnight. Empty before use for odour-free trainers.

Gets rid of musty smells in your car Sprinkle a little Bicarb in the boot, under the mats and on the seats to get rids of bad odours.

Softens paintbrushes Add 100g of Bicarb to 200ml of vinegar and 500ml of hot water. Leave the brushes to soak overnight in the mixture and rinse off for clean, soft brushes.

what good ideas , i try to use things that you can find around the house .
i use lemons alot they are great for descaling the kettle just the juice of one lemon in the kettle after the last cup of the night , a rinse in the morning and no smell .
also on my shower head , juice in a placky bag and the head tied in that leave as long as you can rinse off .
