Title: Bit of a strawberry quandary

"They say" ...

it's time to cut back starwberries so they can make new growth before winter.  My strawberry runners haven't quite good enough roots to support the new plants,  can I still go ahead and trim off the old growth of the parent plants?

I wouldn't, that's all I can say - just a gut feeling with this years conditions.

I'd get the first rootlet off the runner and peg it down in a pot filled with soil or compost, then cut the rest of the runner off. This helps to conserve the energy of the parent plant. I'd leave it about a month before trimming the parent plan leaves but take off any that are going brown.
