Has any1 ever attempted to take a cutting from a rose bush? Down the road from me has got this lovely rose bush, ive looked in all our garden centres and can never find it, it looks like rosa sharon but i bought that and its not the same 1 lol if u have successfully took a cutting is it the same way as doing fuschias?

I have had some success with propagating roses from current year growth in same way as with woody shrubs such as buddlehia - in mid/late summer take an 18" woody stem cut just below a bud and stick it in the ground 9" and leave till following year should bud OK.

I'm not a rose expert and I know that there are huge differences between rose types - above works on old shrub roses - you may come unstuck if it's some type of grafted modern rose.

I don't know whether it's what you're talking about but the Rose of Sharon is a hibiscus I think.

naa i bought it from wyevale yellow rose it is and its got a lovely scent, but its not the 1 i wanted lol

Hi there, My grandad used to take rose cuttings. All he did, was take a cutting in the autumn, then put it in a bit of ground that could be left for a while, (over a year!!!!!). The cuttings did relatively well, though they weren't as strong as a grafted plant, and it is a long time to wait for the results!!!
