the only onions i have had any dealings with are 6 plants that come from a garden center (still not realy doing anything)

i wanted to ask if i would be best growing onions from seed or sets?

i've only ever grown sets, but from what i've read seeds seem quite difficult. with sets you just put them in the ground, feb/march and wait till harvest. with a bit of weeding inbetween.

for the first time this year I am growing Stuttgarter Giant from seed (29p per pack in LIDL believe it or not for 10m run). Not easy but, most other crop are failing they seem ok'ish. they mature Autumn I think so will update. regards

im a bit unsure on sowing fro seed, i have to heard it can  be hard to get it right!

i think im going to order some sets from suttons and take the easyer root (so to speak)

I find sets the easiest. In fact you can plant autumn sets in September/October.
Ah well ! There is always next year !
