Citrus help PLEASE!
« on: January 01, 2011, 11:04 »
Can I just check that what I am planning to do is the right thing? I purchased a pot grown kumquat last year and it's a handsome plant. Or was.
With the severe December I brought it indoors - I have no greenhouse/porch/conservatory- and placed it in the small bedroom which is unheated (they need a period of winter 'cool') but subsequently had to use that room so moved it to another, slightly heated room.
When I returned from a 5 day Christmas break it had shed most of it's leaves - the compost was still moist- and I see evidence of red spider mite.
So I plan to move ir back into cool, bright conditions in an unheated bedroom, keep it sprayed  with water to increase humidity and it will be on a dish of moist gravel. I prefer not to spray with chemicals but will if I have to.
Any further ideas? Perhaps a clear plastic bag over it??
HNY and TIA
Ian

My guess would be cool it down and leave it alone and then hope it recovers in the spring but I don't really know. It doesn't sound very happy though.
Self-sufficient in rasberries and bindweed. Slug pellets can be handy.
