Doesn’t the current evidence suggest that these prions form in animals that are fed meat when they are natural vegetarians? Like we (and the Americans) fed our cows and sheep meat protein whereas in other parts of Europe this wasn’t the case??? That being the reason we got the problem and they didn’t.

So if you raised your own sheep/cow and you knew what it had been fed then you could eliminate the risk somewhat.

While I’m at it, when beef wasn’t being sold on the bone in the UK, you could still buy ox tail. I always assumed that ox tail was really cows tail because if it truly was ox then it means we only eat the tongue and the tail of these magnificent beasts. Seems an awful waste. :(

And if they were cows tails then we were basically being sold spinal column sections!!! :o

Got it in one! yes as best i know ox tail was cow, as is ox tongue, and yes, it was spinal column!

The feeding of meat protein certainly assisted in the spread of the problem, but prions can and do occur in other deseases. I beleive its either altzheimers of parkinsons that is a prion disorder, but i cant remember which.

Its cutting edge research, the BOINC project im involved with models protein folding patterns. If we can find why these proteins fold incorrectly, then we can develop treatments.

Proteins are the key to medicine.

twas a long time ago when i was 16. I went on't rob for a few days. Ended up spending a day in the dungeons of donny nick. Not the most pleasent location to be.

its one of those things i wish i hadnt experienced, but wouldnt want not to have. I was nicked by the BIGGEST copper i have ever seen, still remember his name, keeblow. He said he wouldnt cuff me but if i ran off he'd come down on me like a ton of bricks. And yes, i DID believe him!

I got a chief supers caution, but what brought me to my senses was me mums reaction

i were a bad lad that week  , but im nice now  :D  :D  :D
