I planted my carrots in a deep trough type of thing, the were planted in april as it said on packet.  they are still very tiny but with tall leaves should i just dig them up an compost them or is ther anything i can do to encourage them to grow bigger. they are far too small to eat.

Oh, who knows, Sazzy!

Did they germinate late, by any chance?

out of 3 sowings of carrots this year only about 8 germinated, and of those only about 5 actually grew, pulled one today because it's yellowing leaves told me it had the fly and sure enough.....

Sazzy, there's no harm in letting them grow on. Carrots don't mind cool weather. If they still show no sign of growing, then compost the lot. Some years are like that.

Sorry to hijack your thread Sazzy!

Can anyone tell me what is eating my Carrots...

Is it the Fly?

I'm growing them in a large container, the majority look ok.

Never grown Carrots before so I have no idea!

Caterpillars! I had the same thing about a month ago. Had me puzzled for ages until the tiny blighters got big enough to spot. I planted in pots to avoid root fly and get caterpillars. I'm afraid I broke with my organic nature and sprayed - well it was an organic pesticide but I prefer to use nothing. I WILL GROW AN EDIBLE CARROT!!!

Thanks for your replies.

Strange, I haven't seen any Caterpillars for a number of years!

Should I pull up those affected?
