Alpine Strawberries
« on: February 24, 2011, 22:18 »
I've posted this here as opposed to 'over there' as I have alpine strawberries edging the front of the flower beds that I grew from seed last year. The plants have made it through the winter really well, and are still well covered with healthy leaves. I can now see new leaves growing uinderneath, so, do I cut off the still lush looking older ones to make room for the new, or leave the plants to their own devices? As ever thank you. Jude.

Can understand your "which board" dilemma Jude but you're still going to eat them aren't you? (Moved to "Grow You Own.")
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!

One of the best things about being an orang-utan is the fact that you don't lose your good looks as you get older

Doesn't seem to be a lot of Alpine strawberry growers though, does there?

That includes me; I guess the sensible approach is just to remove dead leaves and to leave them to get on with it (just like "normal" strawbs.)

Give them a tidy up if you wish but i think it makes very little difference to alpine strawbs, they are tough grow like weeds and would take over the world given the chance.
Always worth having a few alpines to sprinkle on the breakfast cereal. :)
