It wasn't me who coined that name - so don't blame me if it doesn't work out!

It must work out, unless he messes up.

The guys with the best early peas here also always sow in March. Last year Greenshaft at that. It was beautiful. 8)

Yeh im in Hull gobs, we get very sheltered weather here due to the huge volume of water in the humber estuary so the temprature fluctuations are greatly reduced, we never get really hot or really cold weather.

I wasn't thinking of overwintering them, i was thinking of getting some going now in loo rolls and planting them out, we very rarely get snow here and this year we have only had around 10 frosty nights all winter.

Aha, it was freezing boldy cold, when I was there. Humber or not, winds, chill factor, all that matters.

Have you read all this thread? Because I could only repeat what everybody said above. You can play with it, of course, but might not be worth it.

Yes, I should think so.

my mid-march sown peas have never been affected by frosts - if that answers your question  ;)

You would have to harden them off really, really well though, for them to stand any chance at all.

I think you would only gain a week or two, at best, because they would still need a certain level of light & warmth before they would flower and fruit.
Even the over-wintered ones are only a little bit earlier than the march-sown ones, so you don't gain much  :(

i was thinking of getting some going now in loo rolls and planting them out,

You need one heck of a lot of loo rolls to do a row of peas.

A short 10' row will need 120 peas!

But of you've got the time and patience to mess around, don't let me stop you!  :tongue2:

Regarding the frosts, they'll take a bit, but not sustained frosts. I posted piccie of another plot holder's peas in another thread on 9th January.

They are all now dead!
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?
